Meet the Guest Speakers

  • Dr. Fred Below leads the UIUC Crop Physiology Laboratory where he and his team of more than 12 academic professionals, undergrad, and graduate students conduct research focused on management practices that improve corn and soybean productivity. He developed the ‘Seven Wonders of The Corn Yield World’ and the ‘Six Secrets of Soybean Success’ as tools to teach farmers and agricultural professionals the value of their individual crop management decisions, and he is actively using these concepts to develop systems capable of sustainably producing high corn and soybean yields.

  • Abigail Peterson, Director of Agronomy and Certified Crop Adviser for the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA), holds a B.S. in Agronomy from Iowa State University. She has expertise in field scouting, soil sampling coordination, economic data collection, and outreach. Peterson guides ISA’s agronomy efforts, develops on-farm trials, and promotes conservation agriculture practices to Illinois’ 43,000 soybean farmers.
